Over the years, alumni, faculty and friends of the department have contributed to the support of the Physics Department and its mission. They have done so in many ways. You will find listed here scholarships that honor faculty, students, and their family. This financial supports continues to help students achieve their academic and career goals. Many would be unable to complete their studies in a timely manner without this support. Listed also are endowed chairs, lectureships and fellowship, again many were established to honor faculty and to support the teaching and research mission of the department. Others have donated unrestricted funds to be used at the discretion of the department to support important activities, not in the department’s budget. These funds are, for example, often the difference between a student presenting a paper at a meeting or staying home. They are also the source of funds to leverage a new program. We hope that, after reviewing this list, you too will be inspired to honor and support your department. Roger Bengtson Undergraduate Research Endowment.Scholarship
My Gift shall be used to create a permanent endowment for the use and benefit of the Department of Physics within the College of Natural Sciences to encourage joint faculty and undergraduate research. Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to support undergraduate students majoring in Physics. Preference shall be given to students who have demonstrated financial need, a minimum 3.0 GPA, and current or previous experience of research collaboration with faculty in the Department of Physics. Research support may be renewed. The student application should include a description of the proposed research project. Student must participate in the research and write a report of what they have done on the research project at the end. As appropriate, the faculty member may receive 5% of student award to pay for additional expenses of working with an undergraduate researcher. It may not be used to supplement faculty salary.

Robert N. Little Graduate Fellowship in Physics
Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide financial support to graduate students from Central America who study Physics at The University of Texas at Austin.
The Robert N. Little Graduate Fellowship in Physics was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on September 26, 2002, for the benefit of the College of Natural Sciences. Gift funds were provided by Mr. Scott R. Little of Austin, Texas, a 1970 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering, Mrs. Stephanie Little of Austin, Texas, and the R. Stanton Avery Foundation of Pasadena, California. This endowment was given as a tribute to Dr. Robert N. Little in honor of his long and outstanding service as a University of Texas Professor of Physics. Through this gift the donors seek to continue his lifelong work dedicated to improving physics education in Central America.

The Dr. Cécile DeWitt-Morette France-UT Endowed Excellence Fund was established in fall 2017 through a joint investment by UT Austin and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will exist in perpetuity. Annually, distributions from the fund will support research collaborations and travel stipends for UT Austin students to pursue research interests in France.
